NCDOT Design Ideas Senior
staff from NCDOT and The City of Winston Salem combined to form
design teams for the Business 40 Improvements Project. These groups
met several times in 2009 to discuss and develop preliminary ideas
for configuring the improvements to Business Route 40. These
conversations led to the development of several different Design
Ideas for the project. The Design Ideas, conceptual in nature, have
had no engineering completed for them and were meant to be a
starting point for discussion on what could be done the Business 40
Improvements Project . In May 2010 the
design ideas were initially presented to the public during a combined
meeting of the Business 40 Working Groups and were subsequently
presented in the Winston Salem Journal. After the working group meeting
it was determined that the Design Ideas as presented were confusing and
new figures for the ideas were developed and used in October 2010 at the
Corridor-wide meetings for the project. The public was asked to comment
on their opinions about the Design Ideas as they were presented. The new
figures break the project into four (4) sections and present the
different design ideas alphabetically. Click on the map presented below to view the conceptual design ideas for any portion of the project in which you are interested.
